"New York est l’une des grandes villes américaines les plus sûres du pays". C’est ce que vient d’annoncer son maire, Michael R. Bloomberg, en dévoilant les statistiques fournies par le F.B.I. sur la criminalité aux Etats-Unis pour l’année 2006 qui font état d’une baisse de 5,3% à New York par rapport à 2005, alors que la criminalité a augmenté de 1,3% dans le reste du pays.

Je trouve tout de même que l'office ne joue pas vraiment la transparence : tout dépend des niveaux en valeur relative...

tiens, là j'ai trouvé ce rapport de 2000 :
In the year 2000 New York had an estimated population of 18,976,457 which ranked the state 3rd in population. For that year the State of New York had a total Crime Index of 3,099.6 reported incidents per 100,000 people. This ranked the state as having the 40th highest total Crime Index. For Violent Crime New York had a reported incident rate of 553.9 per 100,000 people.
This ranked the state as having the 12th highest occurrence for Violent Crime among the states. For crimes against Property, the state had a reported incident rate of 2,545.7 per 100,000 people, which ranked as the state 45th highest. Also in the year 2000 New York had 5.0 Murders per 100,000 people, ranking the state as having the 23rd highest rate for Murder. New York’s 18.6 reported Forced Rapes per 100,000 people, ranked the state 48th highest.
For Robbery, per 100,000 people, New York’s rate was 213.6 which ranked the state as having the 3rd highest for Robbery. The state also had 316.7 Aggravated Assaults for every 100,000 people, which indexed the state as having the 20th highest position for this crime among the states.
For every 100,000 people there were 463.4 Burglaries, which ranks New York as having the 43rd highest standing among the states. Larceny - Theft were reported 1,796.4 times per hundred thousand people in New York which standing is the 45th highest among the states.
Vehicle Theft occurred 285.8 times per 100,000 people, which fixed the state as having the 34th highest for vehicle

Il faut peut être souligner que ces statistiques concernent la totalité de l'état de New York, qui compte près de 19M d'habitants, alors que la ville de New York a environ 8M d'habitants. Il est fort probable que la criminalité dans le reste de l'état n'ait rien à voir avec la criminalité à New York City...

C'est vrai que le problème avec les chiffres c'est qu'on peut leur faire dire un peu ce que l'on veut...
Ceci dit sur le site de la ville de New York en allant faire un tour dans la partie consacrée à la Police on peut avoir les données détaillées pour chaque borough, et même pour chaque "precinct", chaque poste de police quoi en fait.
Cerise sur le gateau c'est mis à jour toutes les semaines !

Ceux qui veulent des chiffres vont etre servis ! Tiens par exemple il y a eu 4 meurtres entre le 11/06 et le 17/06. Je vous laisse suivre le lien pour regarder tout ca !
