Sensational Stops to Shop

The Shopping Capital of the World lives up to its reputation with new retail outlets to explore. Bloomingdales (504 Broadway, 212-729-5900, www.bloomingdales.com ) opened a SoHo outpost in March 2004. The second New York City location, housed in a landmark building, carries clothing for the Downtown set with a great selection from Diane von Furstenburg, Marc Jacobs, Nanette Lepore and more.

There is plenty to buy at the Shops at Columbus Circle (10 Columbus Circle, 212-823-6300, www.shopsatcolumbuscircle.com ), located in the new Time Warner Center. Retailers range from Borders Books & Music to Sephora, Samsung, Sisley and Stuart Weitzman.

New family retail experiences provide the perfect place for bonding. American Girl Place (609 Fifth Ave., 877-AGPLACE, www.americangirl.com ) is a destination store with live musicals in its own theater, a café, doll hair salon and special events.

Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and the gang come to life in an interactive shopping environment at the World of Disney (5th Ave. at 55th St., 212-702-0702, www.worldofdisney.com ). Fun features include Cinderella’s Princess Court, Goofy’s Candy Company and a multi-media zone. Shoppers can take home the perfect souvenir with an array of special New York City merchandise.

Kids of all ages love the new FAO Schwarz (767 Fifth Ave., 212-644-9400, www.fao.com ). The world-famous toy store reopened in November 2004 after an extensive renovation. It is more fabulous with story time for its youngest guests, fun performances and a cast of colorful characters like Bobby the Toy Soldier, the Fairy Princess and Safari Sam. Another treat, FAO Schweetz serves super-premium ice cream creations, fine pastries, towering milkshakes and frosty floats.

Brides-to-be have Kleinfeld (718-765-8500, www.kleinfeldbridal.com ). Now their wedding party can make an appointment at the new Kleinfeld Bridesmaids’ Loft (270 W. 38th St., 212-398-5255) in Manhattan. Inside, they will find almost 400 samples in every style, size, shape and fabric from some of the world’s leading designers.
